Efma Accenture’s banking innovation of the month award for January goes to Widiba for its Widiba Home virtual reality branch.


Widiba prides itself on being one of the most innovative online banks at international level. With digital experience at its core, the bank gets close to its customers through virtual reality.

At a time when physical bank branches are closing every day, Widiba decided to open virtual branches that would be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In July 2017 it began developing Widiba Home – the first totally virtual reality branch that allows users to check, browse and perform operations with voice and eye commands or with the support of an avatar.

Widiba Home was launched in November 2017, after a project involving the whole company from IT to user experience, commercial, customer support, finance and operations teams.

Widiba Home enables customers to decide what their banking experience will be. It offers advanced yet simple technology that allows customers to enter the bank without leaving home. The app is available for all customers with an iOS or Android smartphone and is compatible with any 3D visors available on the market.

Initial results show more than 10,000 downloads of the app, with Widiba’s internet banking customers requesting more than 3,500 3D visors within three hours of the launch. Now, more than 4,000 unique customers are using the app to perform daily banking every week.

Widiba Home will be automatically selected as a nominee for the Efma-Accenture DMI Awards 2018. Submit your innovations on the Efma Accenture DMI portal. 5 February is the deadline for February Innovation of the Month. Participation is free of charge and open to all financial institutions but Innovation of the month is reserved for Efma members.
