Bio:

Patrick Akinwuntan leads the Domestic Bank, which is responsible for Retail, SME, Medium corporates, Public sector, Microfinance and Cards & eBanking businesses of the Ecobank Group. Patrick has an uncommon passion for financial inclusion by taking banking to the underbanked and unbanked across Africa. He has led various innovations to achieve this objective through mobile money partnerships with telcos, partnerships with major international card schemes, Ecobank’s pan-African card, Ecobank Rapidtransfer remittances, direct sales agents, sales kiosks, credit factories and rural savings via POS etc. Prior to his current role, he has held various group responsibilities, including, Group Head, Domestic Bank Products, Group Head, Operations, Technology, Transaction and Retail Banking and Managing Director of eProcess International, where he led the establishment of the Ecobank Pan-African Technology and Shared Service Centre In Accra, Ghana. He was Executive Director, Retail Banking at Ecobank Nigeria between 2001 and 2005 and Group Chief Financial Officer between 1999 and 2001. Patrick has also been Group Coordinator, Commercial Banking and Zonal Head, Western II at Ecobank Nigeria between 1996 and 1999. Before joining Ecobank, he worked for Ernst and Young, Manufacturers Merchant Bank and Springfountain Management Consulting in Nigeria. Patrick is a chartered accountant and banker. He also holds an MBA Finance and is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School executive program.
